Freestyler Films is a London based film collective led by Icelandic Writer/Director Smari Gunn and Writer/Producer Stephanie Thorpe.
Comprised of European and UK talent, we create long and short content films, documentary, fiction & commercial. With emphasis on finding the sense of humour in every project, we merge clever narratives with impressive visuals.
Smari and Stephanie, previously selected as writers on the BFI Networks Short Film Development Programme and supported by the Icelandic Film Fund, have a multitude of projects in development including a comedy TV series for Icelandic TV and a slate of international drama projects in TV and Film.
Feature Football Documentary, The Home Game, is currently on the festival circuit having previously won the Audience Award at Nordisk Panorama and Skjaldborg. The film's US premiere is taking place at DOC NYC in New York this November.
Smari Gunn is an Icelandic writer and director. After receiving a BA training in European Theatre Arts, Smari began creating his own work and further honed his writing skills through initiatives at The NFTS and BFI Network. Smari writes and directs both in the commercial arena and TV and film. Smari’s short films such as Babel Ltd., Local Dealer and Wheels have travelled all over the world on the festival circuit and received plaudits. The Home Game is Smari’s first feature length film.
Stephanie Thorpe is a Birmingham born screenwriter, producer and co-founder of UK based film collective Freestyler Films. She has produced a range of short films including ´Wheels´ and ´The Rook´, as well as producing commercials and music videos. After being selected onto BFI Network’s short film development programme as a writer, Stephanie is now in development on TV projects alongside producing, both freelance and at Freestyler Films.
